SKEGNESS SANDS - SKEGNESS [124]

Tuesday 23rd June – Saturday 27th June 2009

The approach to this site off the A52 could not be easier using the Winthorpe Avenue entrance. Information indicates that reception is closed 1-2 PM but I was told that this is not the case during peak periods. It may be worth checking if you intend to arrive during these times. Pitches are pre – allocated and you are given a key for the various gates around the site and the toilet block. My Caravan Club membership card was taken as a deposit for these. The touring pitches are on one side of a much larger static van site and there is a swimming complex within this site which is available for touring guests. The beach is only yards away and is overlooked by a coastguard lookout. The imposing Derbyshire Miners Welfare Home is housed within the imposing building on one side of the site.

A short walk down Winthorpe Avenue to Roman Bank [A52} brings you to a convenience store, a fish and chip shop, a Chinese carry out and a couple of pubs. One of these pubs has an ATM that is apparently free to use. All other services are in nearby Skegness and can be reached using one of the many buses that run down Roman Bank. Butlins and Ingoldmells are nearby in the opposite direction.

This is a great site for a bucket & spade seaside holiday and young kids should love it. The present financial climate should help revive this once popular resort, all we need is decent weather
